Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com and I want to talk about something that drives us dogs crazy — yes, it’s dog allergies that make our skin itchy and make us scratch like a hairless Chihuahua in a pile of poison ivy.

Do you humans know that there are many different things that can cause us dogs to have an allergic reaction and many some you never thought about before?

Sure most every human knows that biting critters, like fleas, ticks, and mites that get onto our coats can give us dogs a lot of grief and make biting and scratching ourselves a full-time job.

There are many shampoos and various natural and not-so-natural remedies and treatments that can kill those annoying biters, but did you know that sometimes the remedies and treatments themselves can make us feel sick, give us itchy skin, hot spots, and hair loss?

We need our vaccinations to keep us safe from deadly diseases when we’re young, but did you know that giving us vaccinations can make it difficult for some of us to breathe, cause us to throw up, have diarrhea, or even a seizure?

There are also many other things in the human environment, besides giving us the wrong food or treats, that we dogs can be allergic to.

Did you know that we can suffer from seasonal allergies, just like you humans.

Did you know that we’re allergic to many plants, which we sometimes can’t help tasting, and some of us also like to eat grass?

If you put chemicals on the grass to make it green, or something in the soil to grow nice flowers, and we can walk on the grass and get into the garden, now we’ve got this stuff on us or in us.

Also, even when you humans wash the floor or shampoo the carpet with something that smells nice to you, it may be toxic to dogs and can cause itching, licking allergy, or make us feel sick.

Remember that you humans are in control of the food you give us, and the products you put on us, on purpose or accidentally.

Also, remember that we dogs are so much closer to the ground and we don’t wear shoes to protect our skin or coats from things that can make us feel bad.
