Pet Insurance for Dogs

Discover Why You Need Pet Insurance for Your Dog

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to ask if you like vet fees and bills?

I know I sure don’t, but then again I do want my life to be healthy and if I get sick or have an accident, I want my humans to have enough money to take me to sit on that cold metal table at the veterinarian's office.

That’s where insurance comes in — strange word, I know. What does it mean?

Simply it means how humans can INSURE that we dogs get the best health care possible without having to dig up that stash of bones buried in the back yard that they’ve been keeping for a rainy day.

Here’s Phoebe, the Papillon, our Health Care spokesdog here at AskBoris.com to tell you much more about how important it is to have an insurance plan for your best fur friend and where to find one.

Hello Everyone! It’s Phoebe here to chat about Pet Insurance.

First of all, you might be wondering why your humans need pet insurance for you, and that answer is simple.

You are part of the human’s family, they love you, and they will do anything to help you stay as healthy as possible.

So what’s insurance got to do with staying healthy? If your humans don’t have health insurance for you, visits to the vet’s office can be very expensive, which means you might not get to go as often as you might need to.

Also, if you have a bad accident that costs a lot of money to fix, your humans might have to let you pass across the Rainbow Bridge too early in your life because they can’t afford a life-saving surgery.

You might be wondering, what kind of pet insurance your humans should buy for you? Ok, here's what you need.

You need health insurance that pays 80% to 90% of all tests, illnesses, injuries, medications, surgeries, and hospital stays because this means that your humans only have to pay an affordable 10% to 20% of those expensive vet bills.

While we’d like to stay with our humans forever, we dogs have much shorter lives. This means that when our humans keep us healthy we can add more years to our lives.

How many years we have to share with the humans we love depends on how well they take care of our health.

Ask your humans to get you a pet health insurance policy, so that you will receive better health care and the best chance to love them for as long as possible.

Read more about Pet Health Insurance below...

What You Need to Know to Get the Right Kind of Pet Insurance

Did you know that according to statistics for 2019 and 2020, just in the United States alone, there are 85 million homes that have pets? and that humans spent over 30 million dollars taking their beloved pets to the vet’s office for care in 2020?

WOW! that’s a lot of dog bones.

Humans worry that it can cost thousands when emergencies happen and their best fur friend has to visit the veterinary clinic.

If your human doesn’t have a big fat pile of money stashed away in an old sock drawer just for doggy health care emergencies, their best friend may be out of luck.

So that nobody has to worry, a better plan would be for all loving dogs and cats to have a health insurance plan.

The best time for your humans to buy you health insurance is when you are still a young pup and have no health problems, because many insurance plans will not pay for pre-existing problems.

Pre-existing just means something that made your fur companion sick before their humans bought the pet insurance plan.

There’s a lot of insurance companies out there all offering different coverages at different prices, and it can be very confusing to know which one to get.

We’ve found a few that might be just right for you, including a unique community health sharing plan (Eusoh) — check them out below.

Eusoh is NOT pet insurance. It's much better.

It's a community health sharing plan that reimburses you for your pet's medical, wellness, illness, and routine care expenses.

Canine Multivitamins and Supplements

The Best Multivitamins and Supplements for Dogs

Hello, it’s Boris from Ask Boris the Dog with a few words about doggy multivitamins and herbal supplements.

What are they? Well, we dogs are becoming more and more like our human guardians and they have been eating things called “vitamins” and “supplements” for a long time and because we are also part of the family, and they want us to stay healthy, they’ve decided to give these to us, too.

OK, those are really weird names and things we dogs don’t really give a hoot about — give us MEAT!

Here’s "Phoebe the Papillon", our Health Care spokesdog, to tell you more...

Our humans keep talking about how the food we eat is not as good as it used to be and sometimes doesn’t have all the good minerals and essential nutrients it had when we were all hunter-gatherers and had to catch our own food.

Those smart humans have found ways to improve our health by adding additional ingredients like multivitamins and supplements to balance our daily diet.

They say that this helps to keep our skin and hair healthy and supports and strengthens our immune system so we don’t get sick.

I say if the dog vitamins are tasty tablets, treats, or chews and they make me feel better, let’s have ‘em!

Don’t forget to check out our popular dog multivitamins and supplement products on our website.

Canine Senior Care

Senior Dog Care Tips

Hello, it’s Boris the Dog from AskBoris.com and being a senior dog myself, while my humans have taken very good care of me over the last 15 years, and I have never suffered from any ailments common to my breed, I do know all about getting old.

As soon as we’re born, we’re all getting older, but did you know that there is a LOT our humans can do for us to help us keep our youthful zest for fun and adventure as long as possible?

I will let my Health Care spokesdog, "Phoebe the Papillon" tell you more...

For starters, make sure your humans buy you appropriate food for your current weight and physical activity level.

Also, if strenuous romping about is no longer part of your daily life, and you’re no longer the lean, mean, active running machine you once were, that means your veterinarian might think it’s a good idea to switch to a healthy senior or elderly dog food.

Nobody wants to be an obese dog.

If you’re getting sluggish in your later adult years and carrying too much weight, this can hurt your back, feet, and joints and it’s a strain on the heart that can also see you pushing up daisies before your time.

Just because you're getting older doesn’t mean you should stop regularly exercising because when you keep moving you will stay healthier longer.

Also, your humans should take you for regular check-ups and keep a close watch on your weight to help prevent painful joint arthritis, because this can and add many pain-free years to your life.

Don’t forget about keeping those doggy choppers well cared for, too, with teeth brushing and a daily dental treat.

Yes, I know having teeth brushed is a pain but it doesn’t take long, and having dental disease and losing your teeth is much more of a pain.

Bottom line — it’s important that you get used to sitting quietly and letting your humans brush your teeth.

Boris says the best toothbrush is the rotary electric kind because all the humans have to do is hold it against the teeth for a good job that’s over very quickly.

When you keep moving, eat nutritious food, get regular checkups, stay fit, slim and trim, and put up with teeth brushing every day, your senior years can be healthy ones.

Canine Medications and Supplies

Dog Medications, Supplies, Tips and Resources

Recovery Collars & Cones - Wormers - Thermometers

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to talk a bit about the supplies and canine medications that we dogs sometimes need to keep us healthy.

Sometimes we might get sick or hurt, or feel nervous and when these things happen the human vet might have to take our temperature with something called a “thermometer", or give us yucky stuff to get rid of worms or make us wear one of those embarrassing collars so we can't lick until we are better.

Don't get stressed if your humans have to take you to visit the vet's office, because they are just taking good care of you.

Here’s "Phoebe the Papillon" our Health Care spokesdog, to tell you more...

Hello friends… Phoebe here to tell you that if you get sick, are feeling depressed, or need supplies or medications, while there can be many different choices to help you feel better, in a surgery situation, you’re just going to have to put up with wearing that embarrassing recovery cone.

Yes, it’s horrible, you keep getting stuck in narrow places, and all the noises are so much louder than you’re used to, but you won’t be able to lick the stitches you got and it will all soon be a distant memory.

There are things called “natural remedies” and foods, chews, and treats of different flavors that contain essential oils, calming Valerian roots, passion flowers, and chamomile to help us relax, and ginger medications to settle a churning tummy.

There are also things called “pain killers” and “anti-anxiety” medications that have very strange names (Ibuprofen, Ativan, NSAIDs, Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Clomacalm, Paxil, Prozac, Sertaline that your humans will get from the place with the cold table that can help us feel better when we are injured or stressed and your humans will have to decide whether a natural remedy will work or if a medication is the better option for you.

Canine Hip and Joint Care

Dog Hip & Joint Care Tips and Resources

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to share some information about how important it is to keep your doggy hips and joints well lubricated.

After all, we dogs are agile and energetic creatures of action, and we love to run fast, jump, retrieve balls, catch Frisbees, hunt, climb, swim, strut our stuff in the show ring, do tricks, roll and play hard with our friends at the park.

In other words, we need to take good care of our important hips and joints so we can do all that fun stuff we live for long into our older years.

Here’s "Phoebe the Papillon", our Health Care spokesdog, to tell you how easy it is to prevent the pain of a condition called “arthritis” that makes our hips and joints hurt.

Hello my fur friends, today I’m going to tell you what you need to know about a health condition we dogs can suffer from that really slows us down because it makes our hips and joints hurt, called “arthritis”.

Even though sometimes it’s not until we start to get a grey muzzle, some dogs can suffer from pain from inflammation of the joints, or elbow and hip socket issues much earlier and this will make them feel miserable.

Thank goodness there are a lot of natural foods like green-lipped mussels, and plenty of supplements, chews, powders, tablets, and essential daily vitamins we smart dogs can take to help keep these problems away so we can run, jump and play without pain for our whole lives.

Make sure your human-dog owners know all about things like “glucosamine chondroitin”, “co-enzyme q10”, “yucca schidigera”, “hyaluronic acid”, “ascorbic acid”, “arthritis supplements” and other supplements that we dogs need to keep our joints and hips in good working order.

Canine Flea & Tick Care

Dog Flea & Tick Care Tips and Resources

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to let you know that there are a LOT of sprays, collars, shampoos, medicines, treatments, and skin product options out there when we dogs have to deal with biting insects.

My humans always choose natural, non-toxic products to keep me safe from biting critters.

If you’ve never experienced the bite of a tick or those irritating fleas that make you bite and scratch yourself raw, let me tell you, you are such a very lucky dog.

Here’s our Health Care spokesdog, "Phoebe the Papillon", to share her opinions about the many choices for keeping the creepy, crawly, biting pests away...

There’s not much worse than an infestation of those blood-sucking critters, and the good news is that there is so much that your humans can do to help protect you and prevent this from ever happening.

They will just have to be careful that they choose the right treatments that don’t make you sick because some of the spot products and prevention medicines that you swallow can harm us.

Also, those flea collars, besides smelling bad, have such strong poison on them that they can cause your hair to fall out or make you so crazy that you start walking into walls.

Whether you’re a sensitive large or small dog, sometimes the repellent chemicals used may even kill you.

I prefer a more natural treatment approach, which is a nice warm bath with a shampoo that the fleas don’t like so they simply get out of town.

You might like to also know that there are organic sprays that will instantly kill those nasty biters without causing any harm to us dogs because they are made out of cedar oil.

The only downside of this is that you end up smelling like a forest of trees. Sometimes humans use this too, to get rid of those flying biters, called moss=kwee-toes.

Canine Ear & Eye Care

Dog Ear & Eye Care Tips

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to talk briefly about something that’s important to us dogs that our humans often forget about and that's eye and ear care for dogs.

You see them every morning washing their faces, eyes and ears with cleaners and wipes yet what about us?

I don’t know about you, but every morning when I get up from my comfy bed I’ve got a crusty and sticky eye discharge stuck in the inner corners of my eyes that, try as I might to rub it off on a convenient piece of furniture, it’s stuck tight and refuses to rub off.

Here’s "Phoebe the Papillon", our Health Care spokesdog, to tell you more…

Sometimes dragging my head on the carpet or rubbing against a chair can help clear my sticky, watery eyes, but the best thing is to train your humans to get you some of those cleansing pads or antibacterial wipes and then train yourself to sit still while they give your face the once over.

It feels so good to have a clean face and helps to stop eye infections.

Humans also seem to forget about our important ears, and while it’s not my favorite thing, having clean ears means I may never have to be scratching at my ears and shaking my head because I’m suffering from a painful ear infection.

Once the infection starts, it means a trip to that vet place with the cold table and those nasty ear drops that they put inside the ears which feels really weird.

Nobody wants that, so sit still and when your humans wipe down your face in the morning, get them to regularly check and clean your ears at the same time.

Canine Digestive Care Tips

Dog Digestive Care Tips

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to talk about that gassy problem that humans usually blame us for.

Personally, I don’t find it a problem, unless I eat too fast and have to throw up or it goes quickly out the other end.

It’s actually quite entertaining when I throw up because it makes the humans scurry around with towels and spraying stuff, and then I get to eat again.

Here’s "Phoebe the Papillon", our Health Care spokesdog, to tell you more…

If you have stomach upsets that give you diarrhea, constipation, bloating that makes you swell up like the Good Year blimp, doggy gas that’s so bad it can clear a room in 5-seconds, or projectile vomiting that makes the humans scurry, you may have what humans call “digestive disorder problems”.

They may want to take you to that vet place with the cold metal table where strange humans come and poke and prod you and then they mumble about who knows what.

If what’s going in isn’t coming out in a good poop, all of this could be a distant memory if your humans give you the right food and maybe some supportive enzymes, chews or probiotics to calm your insides and you stop raiding the cat litter box for those tasty tootsie rolls and get your health back on track.

Don't forget to check out our popular digestive care dog products on our website.

Canine Dental Care

Doggy Dental Care Tips

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com to talk about how important it is to take care of your dog’s teeth with proper dog dental care.

Why? Because we are meat eaters and bone crunchers and we need our teeth to chew our food.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to gum a tasty bone?

We can’t get new teeth or keep our teeth in a glass, like some of you humans.

My humans always brushed my teeth with an electric brush dipped in hydrogen peroxide and I never had a tooth problem my whole life.

Here’s "Phoebe the Papillon", our Health Care spokesdog to tell you more…

Hello fellow fur folks, today we’re going to talk about the importance of a healthy mouth and keeping our choppers in good shape.

I know, I know, we don’t particularly enjoy having our teeth brushed, even though our humans are pretty good at helping us with this.

Anyway, without thumbs like they have and those long fingers that can grip pretty much anything, we need them to brush our teeth for us, so just relax and get used to it.

Why should you get used to it?

Simple…unhealthy mouth equals unhealthy dog, and if you let your teeth go, you won’t be able to enjoy your most favorite pastime — that’s right — EATING!

Your teeth will fall out, you’ll get nasty, stinky, painful gum disease and you’ll be eating mush for the rest of your life instead of chewy meat and those crunchy bone treats you like.

Of course, there’s pastes and cleaners you can get your humans to buy for you that will clean your teeth, and help keep them strong, like those weirdly shaped dental chew bones or Dentastix™, but without real teeth brushing that includes getting under the gumline, that hard, tartar, plaque stuff that’s like cement will start to grow on your teeth and that can cause a whole lot of troubles.

Don’t be a weenie, sit still, cooperate, and just get used to the teeth brushing. You'll be SO glad you did.

Also, ask your humans for one of those rotary electric toothbrushes because it does a REALLY good job at cleaning AND the humans don’t have to worry about pushing too hard and making our gums bleed.

When your humans help with your dental care you won’t have bad breath or suffer from dental disease, which means you’ll keep all your pearly whites and can enjoy your favorite foods!

CBD (Cannabidiol) for Dogs

Is CBD Safe for Dogs

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com and I’m going to tell you about something called CBD — and no, it doesn’t stand for “Cats Better Die.” I love cats, even though some of them try to beat me up.

I've heard that CBD is an abbreviation for a word I just can’t get my doggy lips around and humans say it’s oil from a plant that can help improve our health and make us dogs feel better when we have aches and pains.

Well as far as I'm concerned, plants are only good for peeing on, if they help me and my fur friends feel better, I'm all for it.

Read what "Phoebe the Papillon" our Pet Health spokesdog has to say about CBD for dogs and how it can help us dogs feel better.

First, let me tell you that this cannabis plant oil will not make us dogs laugh our guts out and binge eat anything that remotely resembles food like the humans do when they get “high” on those clouds of smelly stuff (that is NOT good for us dogs), because there’s none of that “Psycho” crazy stuff in it.

Why should the humans have all the benefits of this natural remedy that can relieve aches and pains?

Research says that CBD can help us dogs in many different ways, too.

It has health benefits that can potentially make our painful, inflamed arthritic joints feel better, even help address seizures, possibly keep cancer at bay, help an upset stomach, and help relieve stress when our humans leave us alone.

It can even be given to us as a daily supplement to help make sure that we feel good before we get sick.

What’s to lose, especially when this medicinal CBD oil is usually organic and can help in many ways?

Dog Allergy Relief Tips

Canine Allergies - Skin, Coat & Itch Problems

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com and I want to talk about something that drives us dogs crazy — yes, it’s dog allergies that make our skin itchy and make us scratch like a hairless Chihuahua in a pile of poison ivy.

Do you humans know that there are many different things that can cause us dogs to have an allergic reaction and many some you never thought about before?

Sure most every human knows that biting critters, like fleas, ticks, and mites that get onto our coats can give us dogs a lot of grief and make biting and scratching ourselves a full-time job.

Here’s Phoebe the Papillon, our Health Care spokesdog to tell you more…

There are many shampoos and various natural and not-so-natural remedies and treatments that can kill those annoying biters, but did you know that sometimes the remedies and treatments themselves can make us feel sick, give us itchy skin, hot spots, and hair loss?

We need our vaccinations to keep us safe from deadly diseases when we’re young, but did you know that giving us vaccinations can make it difficult for some of us to breathe, cause us to throw up, have diarrhea, or even a seizure?

There are also many other things in the human environment, besides giving us the wrong food or treats, that we dogs can be allergic to.

Did you know that we can suffer from seasonal allergies, just like you humans.

Did you know that we’re allergic to many plants, which we sometimes can’t help tasting, and some of us also like to eat grass?

If you put chemicals on the grass to make it green, or something in the soil to grow nice flowers, and we can walk on the grass and get into the garden, now we’ve got this stuff on us or in us.

Also, even when you humans wash the floor or shampoo the carpet with something that smells nice to you, it may be toxic to dogs and can cause itching, licking allergy, or make us feel sick.

Remember that you humans are in control of the food you give us, and the products you put on us, on purpose or accidentally.

Also, remember that we dogs are so much closer to the ground and we don’t wear shoes to protect our skin or coats from things that can make us feel bad.

Don't forget to check out our popular dog allergy products on our website.

Dog Anxiety Relief

Tips on Relieving Canine Anxiety

Hello, it’s Boris from AskBoris.com and this page is about a very strange human word called Anxiety. Weird word - what does it really mean?

As far as I can figure, dog anxiety is when we dogs feel nervous, confused or that something is not quite right in our world.

It makes us feel sad, lonely and depressed, and often happens when our humans leave us alone. We feel panic and fear and sometimes we get mad — that’s when we chew up the couch or pee in the human’s shoes.

If you humans are worried that your dog is feeling these troubling emotions, keep reading because there are so many anxious dogs out there we could start our own support group!

Here’s Sheila, our Quirky Questions Psychologist to talk more about this common anxiety problem that affects many of our depressed fur friends, and what you humans can do about it.

When humans talk amongst themselves about anxiety they usually mean something called "separation anxiety”, and all this really means is that your dog is not happy when you leave them alone.

Come on you humans, in the first place, dogs are pack animals.

This means that they live together with other dogs or humans, in a family pack, so they would never choose to be by themselves.

It’s no big surprise that when you humans, who are supposed to be our pack leaders leave us alone, we feel afraid, nervous, and unhappy.

When you leave us alone, we don’t know what to do without your guidance.

Sometimes anxiety or doggy panic attacks can be caused by loud, unpredictable noises, when we hear sirens, fireworks, gun fire, alarms, thunder storms and more, and can seriously disrupt a dog’s health.

Unfortunately, so many humans want to have it all, and share parts of their lives with a fur friend even though they may have to leave them alone for many hours every day.

This is a common problem for many of my fur friends, and as a result, there are things called “desensitization devices”, that humans buy for us when they feel guilty about leaving us alone.

You know there are a lot of dogs being left alone, because there are a lot of “desensitization devices”.

There are calming collars and shirts, and many other products, ingredients, supplements, medications, oils, chews, treats, and natural formulas, plus advice of behaviorists and therapists, all designed to help our shattered doggy nerves.

If your dog is suffering and is displaying symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and you can’t be at home with them all the time, they need support, and there is a lot of help to be had, if you just know where to look for it.
