Hello, Phoebe the Papillon your health care spokesdog and I bet that you didn’t know that many of the number one health problems that shorten our lives can be totally prevented?
Yes, it’s true — and today we are going to talk about a very important one — unhealthy teeth.
In the human world it’s called DENTAL or PERIODONTAL DISEASE, and 80% of dogs that only 3-yrs-old begin to suffer in silence from this disease because their humans don’t take the time to clean their dog’s teeth.
The Connection Between Unhealthy Teeth and Your Dog’s Well-Being
The first sign of dental disease is bad breath, and then after bad breath comes gum disease because that hard, crusty, stuff that builds up on our teeth starts to push against the gums and will eventually cause the teeth to rot right out of our head.
While this is a serious problem for all dogs, unhealthy teeth and gums is even more of a problem for us smaller breeds.
Teeth problems make us feel so miserable because it hurts and when we eat, it hurts even more.
When we don’t have clean teeth those tiny little bacterias lurking in our mouths doesn’t just make our breath smell terrible, they can then infect other parts of our body, including our brain, kidneys, and liver, and then, besides making us very unhappy, can shorten our lives.
You’ve seen your humans doing that teeth brushing thing several times every day, so why not you?
Ask your humans to please take the time to brush your teeth at least once every day (more would be better), so that you can have fresh breath, clean white teeth and healthy gums to help you live your best life.
